A Basical Study on Two-point Seismic Ray Tracing
نویسنده
چکیده
In this report, the raypath equation is deduced by using plane wave theory and making high frequency approximation. Two kinds of two-point seismic ray tracing iterative nonlinear methods(the Shooting method and the Bending method) are discussed. The Shooting method fixes one end and apply the raypath equation to find the ray path. The Bending method fixes both ends and use Fermat’s principle to find the right ray path. The Bending method is more efficient than the Shooting method. To area with complex velocity structure, the results of ray tracing relocation show that a small variation of location could produce large differences in travel time.

متن کاملAnalyzing the Illumination and Resolution in Seismic Survey Designing
Seismic modeling aids the geophysicists to have a better understanding of the subsurface image before the seismic acquisition, processing, and interpretation. In this regard, seismic survey modeling is employed to make a model close to the real structure and to obtain very realistic synthetic seismic data. The objective of this study is to analyze the resolution and illumination of the fault by...
متن کاملVelocity Modeling in a Vertical Transversely Isotropic Medium Using Zelt Method
In the present paper, the Zelt algorithm has been extended for ray tracing through an anisotropic model. In anisotropic media, the direction of the propagated energy generally differs from that of the plane-wave propagation. This makes velocity values to be varied in different directions. Therefore, velocity modeling in such media is completely different from that in an isotropic media. The vel...
متن کاملRapid calculation of seismic amplitudes: SHORT NOTE
The ability to calculate traveltimes and amplitutdes of seismic waves is useful for many reflection seismology applications such as migration and tomography. Traditionally, ray tracing (cerveny et al., 1977; Julian, 1977), paraxial methods (Claerbout, 1971), or full-wave methods (Alterman and Karal, 1968) are used for such calculations. These methods have in common considerable computational ex...

The accurate prediction of seismic traveltimes is required in many areas of seismology, including the processing of seismic reflection profiles, earthquake location, and seismic tomography at a variety of scales. In this paper, we present two seismic applications of a recently developed grid-based numerical scheme for tracking the evolution of monotonically advancing interfaces, via finite-diff...
